Biofinity Contact Lenses Review
Biofinity contact lenses are a daily wear, 1 month silicone hydrogel lens from Coopervision. While Coopervision’s Biofinity silicone hydrogel lenses were relatively late to market compared with companies like Ciba, Baush & Lomb, and Vistakon – all of whom have had their own lines of silicone hydrogel on the market for years – Coopervisions’ Biofinity contact lenses were one of the first ones to use a special coating on the silicone hydrogel that increases the natural wetness of the material. Coopervision has dubbed this technology Aquaform ®.
While silicone hydrogel lenses are known for being highly oxygen permeable – meaning that they allow much needed oxygen to reach your eyes, they also have a reputation for drying out easily. Coopervision’s use of Aquaform technology in their Biofinity contact lenses definitely make them better for people who suffer from dry eyes. Another cool fact about the Biofinity lenses is that despite being daily wear contact lenses, Biofinity contact lenses are actually FDA approved for extended wear – up to 1 week straight.
Biofinity Contact Lenses For Extended Wear
So how does the Biofinity contact lens stack up when worn without removal for 1 week straight? Being daily contact lenses, we found them surprisingly bearable when worn for days at a time, but they weren’t nearly as comfortable as contact lenses truly intended for extended wear, like Ciba’s Air Optix Night & Day Contact Lenses. However, if you’re going to wear them mainly for daily wear with occasional extended wear, Biofinity contact lenses are about $20 cheaper per box than the Air Optix Night & Day lenses, making them a tremendous bargain. For true extended wear though, we definitely recommend the Air Optix Night & Day Contact Lenses.
Just How Comfortable Are Biofinity Contact Lenses?
While they’re definitely comfortable, we can’t say they stand night & day (no pun intended) above the rest of the contacts in their class. Based on our experiences and feedback we have received, they seem comparable in comfort level to the Regular Air Optix contact lenses, which are nearly identical in price, and slightly less comfortable than the Acuvue Oasys Comfort Contact Lenses. However, it is worth nothing that the Acuvue Oasys Comfort Lenses are 2 week lenses and will cost you approximately $75 more for a year’s supply compared to the Biofinity lenses.
Biofinity Toric Contact Lenses
The Biofinity line also has a toric contact lens. Not surprisingly, it is named they’re known as Biofinity Toric Contact Lenses. Like the regular biofinity lenses, the Biofinity Toric Contact Lenses provide a solid level of comfort at an affordable price.
